The Master Guide to Paldea, Kitakami, & Blueberry Academy

Pokémon Violet makes hunting for shiny Pokémon incredibly rewarding. Here are the core methods to maximize your odds!
The standard shiny rate is 1 in 4,096. The very first step to becoming a master hunter is to complete the 400-Pokémon Paldea Pokédex. Once completed, speak to Mr. Jacq in the academy biology lab to receive the Shiny Charm. This permanently increases your base odds to 1 in 1,365.
Check your map daily for flashing Pokémon icons—these are Mass Outbreaks. To maximize your odds:
Picnics are your best friend. By using Herba Mystica (dropped from 5-Star and 6-Star Tera Raids), you can craft sandwiches that grant "Sparkling Power Level 3" for specific types. A standard recipe for most types involves combining: 1x Tomato + 1x Onion + 1x Green Bell Pepper + 1x Hamburger + 2x Type-specific Ingredient + 2x Any Herba Mystica.
This is unique to Generation 9. If you make an Encounter Power Level 3 sandwich for a specific type (e.g., Fairy) and stand in an area where only ONE Pokémon of that type can spawn (like Iron Valiant in Area Zero), the game will force-spawn 15 of that specific Pokémon at a time, making it incredibly fast to find a shiny.
Once you finish the main game, your journey continues across two massive expansions with their own storylines, unique maps, and returning Pokémon.
Location: The Kitakami Region
You join a school trip to the rural land of Kitakami, famous for its Festival of Masks. Here you'll meet siblings Carmine and Kieran and unravel the folklore surrounding Ogerpon and the "Loyal Three" (Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti).
Location: Blueberry Academy (Unova Region)
Travel as an exchange student to an undersea academy focused entirely on competitive battling. You'll explore the artificial "Terarium"—divided into four distinct biomes—and face the grueling BB Elite Four.
At the Porto Marinada auction, if you don't see the items you want (like Apriballs or Rotom Catalogs), you can save your game, close it, change your Switch's clock forward by one day, and reopen the game to refresh the items.
You don't need to breed for perfect stats anymore! Go to a Delibird Presents store. You can buy Mints (to change a Pokémon's nature stats) and Bottle Caps (to max out IVs through Hyper Training at Montenevera).
Use the Poké Portal to constantly do "Surprise Trades" while you play. You'll often receive breedjects with hidden abilities or perfect IVs from other players!
